My very first poop post.

August 17th, 2010 (07:20 am)

Seriously? Pooping in the jasmine? WTF, cats? And I'm looking at you, Muppet, none of this shit (heh!) happened before. It's the second time I've had to clean poop out of there in the last week. How did I find out, you'll ask me. Well, it's been 42 (107+) degrees for a few days now and the pot gets direct sunlight for a long time. Let's just say the overpowering manure smell was a total surprise.

I returned some books to the library the other day and I realized I left my favorite green bookworm bookmark in one of them. Boo! I liked that thing, and more importantly, the cats loved it, they kept trying to steal it from me. It had quite the collection of bite marks, some of them even mine. Boo again. I'm NOT about to call the library and ask if they found it, too embarrassing. Too bad they are closing by the end of the month and I won't be able to browse through their books again until October.

Muppet stories

June 5th, 2010 (10:43 am)

'Cause most people could use a smile or two these days, and kittens always deliver.

- He's grown a lot but he still likes chasing his tail. His poor, broken tail, that always gets away from him somehow. Hours and hours of fun.

- He loves chasing his shadow too. He keeps attacking it, never gets tired of it.

- He's still sucking on us, in fact he's doing so right now, purring loudly. By the time he's done his face and chest are all wet and our arms are all slobbery but he's a happy kitten.

- He likes sleeping on his back. For real.

- He will eat almost anything. Cheese, yogurt, fish, that sounds normal for a cat. But what about tomato chunks? Orange juice? Books? (he really thinks books are chewable)

- Dinner time is a circus act. It used to be our main concern was to make sure Killy wouldn't eat Bobby's wet stuff before she got a chance to turn it down (She almost always refuses to eat her wet stuff, even flavors that she liked once. She's very picky, my girl, she takes after her mommy). These days we scoop a couple of spoonfuls of kitten stuff for Muppet and normal cat food for Bobby and Killy. Muppet is yelling for his food as we're doing it, with his special * I haven't eaten in hours. No, days! Why aren't you feeding me? Feed me, feed me,feed me NOW!* whine, a surprising noise that has the other two cats baffled. As soon as we put the bowls on the floor Muppet starts inhaling his food. After a couple of seconds he stops and heads over to Killy's bowl, pushes him aside and starts eating the adult food. As Killy looks at him in disgust we pick him up, return him to his own bowl. He starts eating greedily, then stops, heads over to Killy's and starts eating. And again, and again, and again. The process is repeated until both bowls are empty. If we remove Killy's bowl and place it on the dinner table (where Bobby's bowl is) then Muppet keeps circling around crying for his *second* bowl. Greedy little bastard!

- He thinks cat litter is a great toy. Sometimes he likes rolling around in it. :/

- He wants to play all the time, he even brings in leaves and flowers from the balcony just so he can chase them around in here. Killy humors him occasionally, Bobby doesn't. She's adjusting to him but she still doesn't like him, especially since he's taken over. Sometimes we see her look at him all forlorny, especially when he's in one of her spots or in our laps.

- He has found all their favorite napping spots and he always chases them away from them. He chases them away from the bed most nights too. And he hasn't realized yet that there are certain times that he's not exactly welcome on the bed. ;)

Need I go on? He is funny, and fun. He always makes me smile. :)

Kitten!

April 17th, 2010 (12:16 pm)

Some of you may have seen my update on FB yesterday. It's now almost a full day since I brought in a stray. I just couldn't resist. I heard it crying Thursday morning on my way to work but didn't have time to look for it. I heard it and saw it on Friday morning, on the same spot, looking tiny and helpless. 6 hours later, on my way back, it was still there, all alone. It was a really hard decision cause we don't really need another cat and I knew our cats wouldn't be happy, but I just couldn't leave it there to die. It's very young, I think about 3 weeks old. Its walk is wobbly and funny, his eyes are blue and his voice is loud and insistent. He keeps following us around, we're afraid we'll step on him. His tail is broken. He likes cream but isn't so keen on the kitten milk I bought today, I hope we can get him to drink some. He's too young for solid food. We have no experience with kittens that young, it's kind of terrifying.

Our cats hate it. Hate him. There was a lot of hissing yesterday, a lot of backing away from him as he's a ticking bomb, when he's even smaller than my fist. No, our cats are not pleased and they let us know. Bobby was growling at the poor thing when it hid under the bed last night. He just wants company, he wants friends. They want things to go back to the way they were. I don't blame them. The last thing I want to do is make their lives miserable, especially Bobby. She still hasn't gotten over the shock of having to live with Killy and it's been 5 years. Our decision was to help the kitten through the first weeks, because it wouldn't survive out in the street. We'll see how things go. If our cats don't accept him, then we'll have to try finding him a new home -extremely difficult, not many people like pets here- or put him out on the street again. We're trying hard not to bond but it's not easy. It will break my heart but I know a few people who feed strays on a regular basis so there are a couple of spots that would be good for him, if it came to that.

I don't know. Three cats, ugh. But the little fuzzball is adorable. We'll see what happens.

Monday is Music (?) day.

March 15th, 2010 (06:10 am)

I doubt this qualifies as actual music and you'll watch it at your own peril, but Friday night Greece picked its song for the Eurovision song contest and I have to say, it's a hideous one. There was a nice ballad I liked and another not so bad one, but no, we had to go with this

Forgive the bad quality of the video, I wanted you to see the actual "performance". I think the only person who's truly excited about Eurovision in this country is Dave.

Monday is also report card day. :/

BSG overdose

February 21st, 2010 (07:39 am)

Some of you might remember that I started watching BSG in an unorthodox way, from Season 3,  because that's what greek tv had to offer. Last Sunday I realized I could actually watch previous episodes on tvshack.net and I managed to watch ALL of Season 1 and Season 2 in less than a week.  If work, real life and my stupid computer seminar hadn't interfered I'd probably be done with the whole show already. :p

All of you were right, Seasons 1+2 were miles better than season 3. Since I managed to spoiler myself I know what I have coming in Season 4, I'm just curious to see how it's going to be shown. And I have a huge, HUGE crush on Lee Adama. Seriously. Dave thinks it's funny. I'm just glad I'm safely past the age where I could put men's posters up on my walls. :p

BSG

I was really stocked when I noticed on the TV guide a couple of days ago that Battlestar Galactica would be on every week -night on a certain channel. So what if it's on at 2.30 in the fucking morning, that's what we got the DVR for, right? So I scheduled it to record and I watched two episodes yesterday evening. I was baffled. It seemed... odd, as if the series was starting mid-story and I was supposed to know tons of history. Then I did a bit of Googling (managing to spoiler myself, as always :p) and it turns out, this is Season 3 they are showing! Seriously? Seriously??? Unless they showed the previous two without ever posting it in a TV guide, in which case everybody but the people who habitually watch TV at 3am missed it, this is kind of stupid.

Bobby 1 - Dave 0

November 24th, 2009 (09:39 am)

It's time for the cats to make their third annual trip to the vet (why can't they get all their shots in one visit is a question I'd love answered). They don't like going, especially Bobby. I think flying over the Atlantic several times has traumatized her and she absolutely loathes going in her carrier. Today was no exception. After seeing that the carriers are out she hopped on top of the fridge and then from there right on top of the kitchen cabinets, close to the ceiling. She stayed there yelling at us miserably until Dave got a step-ladder and managed to drag her down without getting his eyes clawed out.

I have to give it to her, excellent strategy. My cat is smart!

Kittens!

Which is weirder, that I say Good Morning to all the stray cats I meet every day on my way to work, or the fact  that I do it in English?

Out of the mouths of babes...

October 14th, 2009 (07:22 am)
amused

current mood: amused

The kids were doing some coloring yesterday in class and that's always a time when silly things are said. They were fooling around and somehow the topic came to age, at which point one of the little girls asked me how old I am. Before I could answer another girl replied with absolute certainty that I'm 47. I theatrically gasped and clutched my heart and asked her to stab me in the back again, and much laughter ensued. I told them I'm almost 34 and the conversation moved on to other things.

Five minutes later one of the boys lifts his head, looks at me and says in his most serious, honest voice: "You know, you don't look a day over 40!"

(I had to laugh at myself for almost taking the words of an 8 year old seriously. Even with not sleeping well and being as tired as I am, I know I don't look my age most days.)
